The image posted by the US-based organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on Twitter contained a close-up photograph of a cat’s head being cut open during a dissection. But the insides were not cake and it was definitely an actual real cat. Animal rights activist group Peta has come under fire for posting a picture of a mutilated cat on its Twitter page as a "sick, twisted joke". Naturally, a lot of people had fun with this and made a lot of jokes about how they cut everything they see and it turns out to be cake. Shortly after PETA's post alluding to the viral cake meme, people across social media began to criticize the organization for sharing the picture of the cat being dissected.

The controversial tweet gained backlash on Twitter.
